Review of Sage Ward - WXH written by a patient
18th April 2018

Sage ward was clean, bright and only had 6 beds which meant that you could build up a good relationship with the nurses. I felt the care was very good and I would like to say thank you to all the nurses, doctors and auxiliary staff for making my stay as comfortable as possible. The ambulance crews who took me to hospital and home again were a credit to their profession. The only downside was the 3 hour wait in A&E before the X-ray and seeing a doctor.

Review of Emergency Department - WXH written by a patient

The only good thing about this service was the fact that we live in the first world and it is a resource we can take advantage of for free. I went in with food poisoning, there were about 6 other people in the waiting room. I was in agony, doubled up with stomach cramping, begging to be seen. The service was so uncompassionate I ended up falling on the floor in agony and screaming to be helped. No one would give me pain killers. I waited for more than 3 hours to get an Xray, and after asking the nurse for painkillers she walked past me without eye contact and said, I'm not a nurse. It was only after the Xray that I was given painkillers. I have never been treated so badly as I have at Whipps Cross. I understand that on any given night, especially at the weekend that there may be all sorts of sights and dramas which may become wearing on the staff, however I was polite and as patient as I could be given the circumstances. The staff were not under pressure as there was hardly anyone there and would have expected from at least one member of staff, an ounce of human compassion. Unfortunately there was none. I was disgusted with the service and will never go to Whipps Cross hospital again, which I guess is what they're hoping for given their attitude towards sick people. It begs the question why these people sought employment in caring for people when care is the last thing they provide.

Went to A&E today with my husband who had exacerbated asthma due to hay fever. We were immediately taken in by the doctor on call because of his condition. We were treated with dignity and respect. All the staff was extremely polite and friendly. The attending consultant Dr. Ali was also very kind and professional. He knew what he was doing and he looked after my husband really well. The entire system was very organized and systematic. Because of my husband's critical situation at that time, everyone in A&E was notified of our presence. The attendants came on to check with him every now and then. We did not have to explain the purpose of our visit to every nurse / attendant / consultant we came across. Everything was taken care of in an amazingly easy and convenient way. We are very much satisfied and happy with the service provided to us. I would highly recommend Whipps Cross. Thank you so much for today.

I came to a&e at whipps cross for shortness of breath whilst cycling, I was seen very quickly, the staff were excellent, Polite, friendly, caring and professional, Especially a doctor named John in the resus area. Did all the tests necessary, kept me informed of what was happening, kept me reassured, I could not fault the staff, from when walked in to leaving they were amazing. Thank you very much :)

Review of Clinical Decisions Unit - WXH written by a patient

I was treated with respect, empathy and reassurance whilst in cdu. All staff especially Josephine, Benjamin the nurses and mehrana and goran ali the doctors. They couldn't do enough for me and ensured they done there best to help me become pain free. You could just see that they are in the right job and have great care and respect especially there bedside manor. Even the lady ( didn't catch her name which is a shame ) ensured I was looked after with refreshments and my mum aswell was looked after. They all had a smile and had a joke with us which helped us feel at ease . These people are really under appreciated and working in care work myself I know how demanding and stressful it is they never seemed to stop and think about themselves. I wish all our hospitals and departments were the same we would have a much better nhs if these people were recognised to train the rest of the nhs staff as some are very miserable . Thankyou so much to whipps cross cdu. Although I dislike hospitals u made my time there stress free and comfortable . U truly are amazing . The only thing i felt was uncomfy was that I was there for 8 hours and 5 hours the previous evening and had no bed to lie on even tho I was in pain and uncomfy in a chair but that is not the staffs fault if no beds are there . I pay so kuch tax and NI every month and wasn't even allocated a bed which is wrong. Driving as I was in pain I just didn't want to make a fuss as it was not the staffs fault. Thank you again cdu a great team . X

Review of Plane Tree Centre - WXH written by a patient

On the 10-04-2018 I had as a day patient key hole surgery to remove my Gall Bladder at the plane unit whipps X hospital prior to this I was assessed at the Willows centre and also had a ct scan at whipps of my lower abdomen involving dye injection to highlight blood vessels .My initial involvement with Whipps was going to A@E in November with chest pains which turned out to be pancrease nd liver problems -I was admitted for 4 days -1in ICU treated with anti biotics /fluids and given scans which showed a poor gall bladder but no stones. At the time I had a catheter as I was awaiting diagnosis and treatment at a private hospital for an enlarged prostate -this was operated on and was not a problem when I had day surgery. My experience of A&E -the Willows and Plane could not have been better.Staff were freindly and compassionate always keeping me fully informed and open to questions which they patiently and fully answered .I had to postpone the surgery for a time because of recovery needed for the prostate operation -it was an open removal and there were complications the delay was handled well by administrative and medical staff. The operation and recovery arrangements were excellent ,I was aware and reassured observing the thorough organisation in play.I am sore now but my full recovery seems in hand and if problems arise I was fully informed of actions to take for further treatment .So my point of view is well done Whipps -pity about the parking (which can be the major challenge of ones visit)and that not all your wards are as modern as Icu -Poplar -Plane and the Willows hopefully this will improve -surely there is enough equity in old unused buildings to fund building new? Review of Emergency Department - WXH written by a family member

Staff ignore you, toilets very dirty, waiting for a bed but need someone from surgical to review...waited over 4 hours with no indication. Waiting for CT report... with no way to contact or advise on time...waited over 2 hours. Told to leave cubicle and wait in corridor. Terrible treatment, no respect and told to leave if not happy as this is not a prison by one of the doctors.
